Want to make songs from MP3 Player on AT&T 8525 as ringtones.?

Is there any way I can make the songs on my mp3 player on my AT&T 8525 into ringtones?

1. They need to be shrunken into smaller files. If the files are too big, it won't accept it as a ring tone. I can't remember the length, but I made a few for my phone. ATT Sony Ericsson w300i
2. how do you shrink them?
