How do I transfer songs from a CD to a computer file?

okay so i have an account on mobile17.com and i want to crop my songs and make them ringtones. but it said that you need itunes or a cd to get your songs from. then when i clicked browse then music(the file) nothing was there. so does anyone have any ideas on how to get cd songs into the music file. .

1. Rip the songs from the audio CD to .mp3 format using windows media player. The files should now be seen.
