converting a song from itunes into a ringtone?

ok so you know how in itunes if you right click you can convert it into a ringtone well i was wondering does it work with only like the iphone or something? or does it work with all phone or not cus i just bought a g1 today from tmobile and i want to make some of my songs into ringtones
