Download totally free ringtones

Anyone know how to make ringtones for a yellow 2009 i580 Telus phone? Plz help!?

Ive tried everything and I to the point where I can get the mp3 file (as 8000hz 24kbs mono sound and under 15sec long) on my phone using the sd-card . It just wont give me the option to "assign as Ringer". Did telus fix this in their new version of the phone? If anyone could help it would be greatly appreaciated!
