Download totally free ringtones

How can i make Ringtones for my Samsung Sync?

I have a Sync, which allows me to put music on it and stuff... but it doesnt let me set the music as a ring tone. is there a way to convert the file on my computer or is there any free software that i can download so i can make my own? Thank you!
