How to convert songs into ringtones in itunes?

When i right click on a song in itunes and go to create ringtone, it comes up with 'itunes could not connect to itunes store. An unknown error occurred.' Now my internet connection seems to be fine, when i click on itunes store it goes to it without a problem, so i fail to see why it isnt connected. Do you need to have a plug in? Im not hugely technical so easy instructions would be great! Thanks :)

  1. You will not be able to do this off of iTunes, but if you do a lyric search on a song (ex: JONAS BROTHERS BURNIN' UP LYRICS) then click on one of the search results and there should be something that either pops up, wanting to know if you would like the ringtone or you can find it at the beggining, end, or middle of the lyrics. I hope this helps. I have never downloaded off of these lyrics websites but I have seen them on lyric searches.

  3. Creating Free Ringtones in ITunes 1)Open itunes and locate 'unprotected song' you want as a ringtone 2)Right click on the song and select 'Get info' 3)Click on the options tab and set the 'Start Time' and 'Stop Time' that you want. Then click OK 4)Now Right click on the song again and select 'Create AAC Version' ITunes will create a new song with same name 5)Right Click on 'New' song and select 'Show in Windows Explorer' 6)Right Click on the new song in windows and click 'Rename' Then change the extension from m4a to m4r and press 'Enter' on the keyboard. Warning box will come up just press 'Yes'. 7)Drag the new m4r file from windows to itunes 'Ringtones'. You can either click on the itunes Ringtone icon first and then drag it to that library or just drag it right to the ringtone icon on the left. THAT'S IT!! YOU HAVE A NEW RINGTONE! 8) Now you have to clean up alittle. Under 'Library' Click on 'Music' (Left side) Then delete new 30 sec song. FYI, this is NOT the ringtone. Next Right click the original song, 'Get Info', click options tab, uncheck 'start time' and 'stop time' and click ok. YOUR DONE! Helpful hints: *I know it sounds like a lot of work but once you've done this a few times it'll take less than 30 sec to create a ringtone. The hardest part is finding which 30-35 sec clip you want. **As far as what is unprotected, I really have no idea. lol That's what I've read so I put it in here but I've been able to create a ringtone from every song I wanted; old, new, itunes or transferred songs. ***On step 6, if you try to change from m4a to m4r and it will not allow you to change file extension, you have to 'uncheck' hide known extensions. Simply go to Control Panel=>Folder Options=>View Tab=>then uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types'=> click 'Apply'=>OK Then you will be able to change files from m4a to m4r ****If I were you on Step 4 once you create the AAC Version, I would double click it to preview what it will sound like. Sometimes I think I have the right 30-35 secs then i hear it and decide to change it. *****Step 3 is also a good time to adjust the volume down alittle so it want sound too distorted.
