does signing on verizon aim on your cell count as megabyte usage?

i recently got a new Verizon phone. i downloaded the free ringtones deluxe app. it said i was completely free. i later got a bill for a $40 charge for megabyte usage. when you sign onto the AIM on your cell phone (that counts as your texting plan) does it count as megabyte usage charges?

1. Nobody has charged you for the application, what you have been charged for is the bandwidth used to download that application. If you had a contract that included unlimited internet usage then, you'd not have been charged anything for downloading the application. The situation with AIM is different, if you have unlimited texts (including incoming) and your phone accesses AIM via texts then yes that would be free. But if like on my phone it accesses AIM via internet data, then again you would find on your non-internet plan that you are charged for data usage. You need to speak to a representative to clarify what your mobile plan covers!
