Download totally free ringtones

How can I make custom ringtones out of any mp4 or mp3 file?

I download songs from both iTunes and limewire, lately just iTunes. Some songs i cant make a ringtone out of downloaded iTunes songs. Is there a way I can make a ringtone out of it by a non legit way?

1. if you have the mp3 file, use Ventones.com its a free site and you can convert the file into a ringtone. if its an itunes file, burn it to a cd first, then convert it to mp3 in itunes, and then upload that to ventones
2. I use the program audacity to make ringtones. It's really easy to use. You can download it for free - just do a google search.
