How do I cut sections of mp3 to make ringtones?

I've now worked out how to transfer music files to my Nokia. But the song I want is too long, and it's just about 30 seconds I want for the actual tone. Is there any free software that I can use to cut the section I want out, but still keep it as a music file? Thanks!

  1. audacity.com make sure you get the LAME encoder as well after installing. it's on the same download page. 10 point please :)
  2. Try using Ringtone Media Studio it isn't free but it's cheap to purchase you can download a free trail of the software. http://www.ringtonemediastudio.com/ you can txt,or send the files to your via bluetooth or USB cable also copy and paste your music file that way you'll still have an original copy of that file after you've edit the song you want or use other software like if you have an audio eiditor on you computer use that.
  3. yeah i had exactly the same problem so i downloaded a free audio editting program called wavepad. Basically it lets you open a song in it then you can edit it and resave it as a new file so you still have the original one. The editting lets you delete parts of the song (so you can shorten it like you wanted) it also lets you add parts of other songs to it, you can speed up or slow down songs for fun & loads of other stuff
  4. A dedicated NOKIA ringtone maker is: Ringophone Composer, this is a freeware. visit: http://www.freewarefiles.com. Other ringtone makers can also be found at this site, simply enter " ringtones " into the search box, then select. good luck!!
  5. the most simple tool to cut mp3 is the windows movie maker. drag your mp3 file on the collection pane, drag and drop it on the timeline below(audio/music).position your pointer on the start of the timeline, then hold your mouse(left click) and move the slider on the part you want you want to start the music.the same process at the end of the timeline.and thats it, you have your ringtone.
