- You don't have to do anything to songs on your computer to use them as ringtones unless: (a) they are in the wrong format - the Nokia 5300 plays music in the wma, mp3 and mp4 (a/k/a AAC) formats, (b) you want to convert your songs to the AAC format to save space, or (c) you want to use only a specific section of a song as a ringtone. Most music player software (like iTunes, Winamp, etc.) is able to convert between several music formats - I use iTunes to convert songs to the AAC format before copying them to my phone. Instructions on how to do that can be found here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiSoZlY2mMcmqQYNrOh9Gcfty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071005164728AA1rTZe&show=7#profile-info-ca5oqubTaa For editing songs for ringtones, you can get good freeware and shareware programs which are certified virus free from snapfiles.com. I like MP3 Direct Cut as it is quick, intuitive and easy to use. Links here: http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/gmm/fwaudioedit.html http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/gmm/fwaudiocodec_r.html To copy songs from your computer to your phone, see here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Apm8zzhD27R3sNTum0_a_Ifty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20070929195952AAUaVYo&show=7#profile-info-ZcKXgXg3aa Once the songs are on your phone, to set a song as a ringtone follow these instructions: From the default screen, select "Menu", then select "Settings", then scroll down and select "Tones", then scroll down to "Ringing Tone" and select "Change", then select "Open Gallery", scroll to the folder your music is stored in (mine is stored on my Memory Card) and choose "Open". If your music is on your Memory Card like me, you will have to scroll to "Music" and select "Open" again. It may take a few minutes for this file to open, depending on how much music you have stored on your phone. Your phone will start to play the first song in your music file as a "preview" and will do this with any song that is highlighted for a few seconds. Scroll through your music until you find the song you want to use as a ringtone, then select it. This will bring you back to the "Tones" menu and you should see the name of the song you selected displayed under "Ringing Tone". Select "Close". Select "Yes" to save changes. To get back to the default screen, press the red button to the bottom right of the rocker switch. To designate a specific ringtone for a contact, select "Menu", select "Phonebook", select "Names", highlight the contact and select "Options", select "Edit contact", select "Options", select "Add detail", select "Tone". From this point, the procedure from the "Tone" menu is the same as above. Hope this helps.
